At a young age, he moved to Erie , Pa. to live with his father until he joined the U.S. Air Force of which he served four years.   He later returned to Erie where he was employed as a Youth Director at The Martin Luther King Center for 10 years, a Machine Operator at Hammermill Paper company  for 14 years, and at the Performance Casting Foundry where he retired in 2006 after 17 years of employment. Soon after, he returned to Uniontown.

Joseph is predeceased by his parents, Rita Salvi Carter and Joseph Gray; wives: Diane Salvi and Lena Mae Salvi; children: Brian Elliott Bonner, Courtney Bedella Richardson; step-daughter, Katrina Sherman.

Left to cherish his memory is his fiancé, Wendy Price; siblings: Gerald (Juanita) Carter and Paulette Beckwith; children: Joseph Salvi, Jr. of OK, Michael Salvi, Traci Sharp, Cynthia Carr, Shannon Salvi, Shauna Marie Salvi, Eboni Byes, Demond Sherman, Amber (David ) Gonzalez,  all of Erie; and Doris Lynell (Dennis) Bryant of GA, 42 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, and his extended-family, the Carson Family of Erie whom he loved very much.

Joey was a member of Mt. Olivet Baptist Church and loved all kinds of music and had a record and album collection to prove it! He was always on the dance floor and loved to sing. He was always ready for a good time and was truly the life of the party.  More than anything, he loved spending time with his family and friends. He was like a father-figure to every young person he met.  He never met a stranger and everyone he met, he called friend.  He will truly be missed by us all.

I’m so sorry for the loss of your loved one. This is no doubt a very difficult time for you and your family. You can take comfort in knowing that God is near you. (Psalms 34:18)

Uncle Joey, you were the nicest, warm hearted gentlemen we knew!! I am so glad we had the opportunity to get to know you throughout your years of you living in Erie Pa!! No matter where we would see you, we always knew we would see a smile coming from your face and a dance to follow it.

You will be truly missed. We love you Uncle Joey!!
