Sister, Cousin, Niece, Aunt, Friend

Germaine G. Johns, age 82, of Brownsville, PA affectionately known to many as “Geri”, “Mainy” or “Aunt Maine”, slipped into eternity, in the early morning hours, Thursday, March 14, 2024.

She was born March 4, 1942, in Brownsville, PA, to the late Allen S. Johns and Thelma G. Johns. The oldest of three, Germaine took great pride in reminding her family and friends, that she was the “first grandchild” on the Dickinson side. She was a loving sister, cousin, niece, aunt, and friend.

Germaine was a faithful member of Mt. Zion AME Church for over 50 years. At the age of 13, she became the church pianist for the Senior Choir. After receiving a bachelor’s degree from Wilberforce University and a master’s degree from University of Pittsburgh, she served the state of Pennsylvania as a social worker. Aside from spending time with her family, Germaine’s fondest memories were those spent on her beloved campus of Wilberforce University. It was during that time that she met her lifelong friends. Germaine was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, and she enjoyed serving in various positions in her sorority, Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc.

Germaine is survived by her brother, Wallace (Antoinette) Johns; special aunts: Thelma Dickinson and Arabelle Lancaster; nieces: Melissa Hagans, Pamela Johns, and Judith Johns; nephews: Michael Johns, Wallace Johns Jr. (Jessica) and Christopher Johns (Jennifer); a host of cousins,  and a tribe of lifelong friends.

In addition to her parents, Germaine is preceded in death by her brother, Allen S. Johns Jr. and stepbrother, James Montgomery.

Friends will be received at the LANTZ Funeral Home, Inc., 297 E. Main St., Uniontown, PA on Monday, March 25th from 11 AM – 1 PM. The funeral service will begin at 1 PM with Rev. Carl Kemp officiating. Internment will immediately follow at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Brownsville, PA.
