With heavy hearts and profound sadness, we announce the passing of Waujeana  Smith Mitchell, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and faithful servant of God. Waujeana's remarkable journey on this Earth came to an end on Saturday May 27, 2023, leaving behind cherished memories and a legacy that will forever be treasured. Waujeana was born on January 10, 1946, and from the moment she entered this world, it was evident that she possessed a special light within her.  She touched the lives of  all who had the privilege of knowing her. Waujeana's unwavering devotion to her family, her faith, and her community defined the very essence of her being.

For 55 years, Rev. Claude Mitchell stood by the side of his loving wife, Waujeana, through thick and thin and demonstrated an unbreakable bond built on love, trust, and commitment through sickness and in health. Together they built a foundation of strength and unity that inspired those around them.

Waujeana was a dedicated mother to her children, Barbara Cartlidge, Viola Mitchell, Dewayne Mitchell, Anthony Mitchell, and Tyrone Mitchell. Her love knew no bounds, and she dedicated her life to nurturing, supporting, and guiding each of her children along their individual paths. Her love extended beyond her immediate family, embracing countless others as if they were her own.

As a woman of God and a devoted first lady, Waujeana's faith was the cornerstone of her life. She found joy in serving God, her husband, her church, and her community.

Waujeana's was a member of a spirit filled group called Change and a member of the YWBA community choir. Waujeana lifted spirits and touched souls with her heartfelt devotion to the Lord. Her faith and love for God were the guiding forces behind her actions and the source of her unwavering strength.

Waujeana's journey was not without its challenges, but her faith and resilience shined through every trial she faced. For over 29 years, she endured being on dialysis, a testament to her incredible spirit and unyielding determination.

Waujeana is preceded in death by father,  Robert Smith; mother, Modestine Smith; twin brother, Walter Smith; and her brother James Smith.

Through it all, Waujeana remained steadfast, relying on her faith to sustain her, and inspiring those around her with her unwavering belief in miracles.

Waujeana leaves behind a legacy that will be forever etched in the hearts of her family and friends. Her memory will be carried on by her children, grandchildren, and all those who were fortunate enough to know her. The lessons she imparted, the love she shared, and the example she set will continue to guide and inspire us all.

As we celebrate the life Waujeana, a life lived with purpose, devotion, and boundless love. May we honor her memory by embracing the values she held dear and carrying her spirit of kindness, faith, and unwavering love within our own hearts.
