Tonya E. Johnson Green, age 60, of Uniontown, PA was born August 30, 1965, and transitioned on January 7, 2026. Tonya lived a life centered on faith, friendship, and simple joys that brought her genuine happiness. Her love of education started early when she graduated from Laurel Highlands High School. She then attended Penn State University and majored in biology, and also pledged Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Later she returned to higher education and earned her master’s degree from California University of PA in Special Education and Science.

Early in her career, Tonya taught at New Directions School and this led to her position at her former school district and alma mater. She served 26 years and was a devoted and well-respected teacher at the Laurel Highlands Middle School.

Tonya was unwaveringly faithful to her family, close circle of friends, students, and church, where she found purpose and community, and participated wholeheartedly as a member of St. Paul’s A.M.E.

Tonya’s commitment to her faith is what called her to become an ordained minister and her faith 
was evident in the kindness she extended to others.

Tonya’s days were often spent enjoying lunch and dinner dates with her closest friend, Sharon, and with her family, sharing stories and laughter. 

Tonya had a passion for teaching, love for shopping, and she cherished every opportunity to spend time on vacation. Vacationing at the beach was one of her greatest pleasures and she embraced each trip with enthusiasm, creating memories that now serve as a warm reminder of her adventurous, joyful spirit.

Throughout her life, Tonya was known for her warm spirit, gentle demeanor, and unwavering loyalty to those she loved. Her presence enriched the lives of many people, and her memory will continue to be honored by all who were fortunate enough to know her.

Tonya is survived by her daughter, Clairesa and Brian Gebhart; son, Jeremiah Green; and grandchild, Elias Gebhart —all who will carry forward her legacy and values; her mother, Diane Johnson; siblings: Dr. Margaretta and Tracey Austin, Carl (Shorty) Johnson Jr, Makka Johnson, Clayton and Dawn Johnson, Corey and Glory Johnson, Christa Johnson, and Honorary Sister, Sharon Jones; nieces and nephews: Andrew Branch, Anthony Branch, Dionna Johnson, Monique Austin, Chase Hicks Johnson, Shayla Lee, Kayla Johnson, Carla Johnson, Jordan Johnson, Leah Johnson, Gabby Johnson, Elyce Murray, Trenton Branch, Braleigh Branch, Kayson Johnson, and a host of aunts, uncles, relatives, and friends. 

Family and friends are invited to celebrate her life at the LANTZ Funeral Home, Inc., 297 E. Main Street, Uniontown, PA on on Saturday, January 17th from 10 AM - 12 PM. The funeral service will immediately follow at 12 PM, followed by interment at Sylvan Heights Cemetery, Uniontown.
