Ralph Mensah Obituary

Ralph E.G. Mensah of Uniontown, PA, formerly of Washington, DC, passed away peacefully on December 14, 2024, at Uniontown Hospital. Born on December 4, 1929, in Aworowa, Ghana, West Africa, he was the beloved son of Kwaku Mensah and Abena Donkor.

Mr. Mensah primarily resided in the Washington, DC area, where he built a meaningful life. In 1967 [?], he and his wife, Kay, traveled to Ghana to introduce her to his family and roots. Shortly thereafter, in 1971, Mr. Mensah earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Federal City College in DC. He worked as an Information Officer at the Embassy of Ghana before dedicating over 20 years of service to the Mayflower Hotel.

A devout and active member of Sligo Adventist Church in Takoma Park, MD, Mr. Mensah served faithfully as a Deacon for many years, and volunteered at the nearby Adventist Community Center. His commitment to his faith and community was a cornerstone of his life.

Mr. Mensah was also a devoted husband, father, and storyteller. He delighted in sharing Ghanaian folklore, particularly tales of Anansi the Spider, with his young sons. A lover of music and culture, he enjoyed dancing to African Highlife music in his younger days. In 2008, he and his middle son returned to Ghana, a brief but heartfelt return to his beloved homeland.

He treasured time spent with his family and friends, whether taking his sons for walks in Sligo Creek Park, driving his youngest son to pre-school, or simply connecting with people. He had an extraordinary ability to make everyone feel like a friend— he truly never met a stranger. His love of American football grew over time, adding another layer of joy to his life.

In October 2023, Mr. Mensah and his wife relocated to a senior community in Uniontown., PA.  He will be remembered for his gentle spirit, kind heart, and the many lives he touched with his warmth and wisdom.

Surviving are his wife, Terill K. Mensah, Uniontown, PA; 3 sons, Nana Yaw Boakye Mensah, of Rockville, MD; Kofi Agyeman Mensah of Phoenix, AZ; John Kwaku Adjei Mensah of Mesa, AZ; several grand children and great-grandchildren; several nephews and nieces in Ghana and abroad; and multiple friends in the US. He was predeceased by 5 brothers and 1 sister. Mr. Mensah was adored by all. RIP.
