Robert “Bo” Smith, age 88, of Brownsville, PA passed away Friday December 29,2023, at Jefferson Hospital, Jefferson Hills, PA. He was born December 20, 1935, in Brownsville, PA to the late Royal and Elvira Smith.
Bo graduated from Brownsville High School in 1953 and began working for Bill Hunt at Hunt's Service Station until his enlistment in the US Army in 1958, at the age of 23. Bo served as a paratrooper for the 82nd Airborne Division. He Spent 2 years in Germany. After, he worked in Washington, DC for nearly one year. He then returned to Brownsville where he worked at the Hillman Barge for 18 years. After leaving Hillman, he went on to work at C&C Marine in Clairton, PA until his retirement 13 years later.
Bo was a former member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church in Brownsville.
He had lifelong childhood friends that include Ronnie Camino of Litchfield, OH, Johnny Cumashot (deceased), Bill Wheeler (deceased), and special friends: Robert “Tinkle” Smith, Bernie Sheranek, Terry Holiday, Mike Bernot and James Cosper.
Bo’s favorite pastime was working in his machine shop in his garage and playing solitaire on his computer.
Bo was preceded in death by his parents, Royal and Elvira (Brown) Smith, and siblings: Allene Robinson, Juanita Smith, Howard Smith and Edwin Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Carol Y. (Ford) Smith; his daughters: Dr. Joy Smith of Greensburg, PA and Robin Smith of Pittsburgh, PA; granddaughters: Ericka and Taylor Williams of Pittsburgh, PA; a sister Gertrude Hutson of Laureldale, PA, and a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
