Phillip Satterwhite of East Millsboro was born March 26, 1930, in North Carolina to the late Thomas and Hester (Cousin) Satterwhite. He departed this life on Monday, January 13, 2025, at the Uniontown Hospital in Uniontown, PA.
Phillip attended Cardale Church for several years with his family members until he joined the United States Army. His rank was Private First Class, and he served from January 10, 1952, to October 16, 1953. He fought in the Korean War and at the end of his service, he was honorably discharged.
Phillip moved his family from Washington D.C. to Columbus in the 1960s. He coached the Linden Eagles Football team in the 1970s. He was the first black distributor for the 7 UP Bottle Company on East 5th Ave in Columbus in the mid-1960s. He worked there for many years.
In addition to his parents, Phillip is preceded in death and his ex-wife, Theresa Gilliam Satterwhite and his son, Timothy L. Satterwhite—both were residents of Columbus, OH.
Phillip is next to the last living person of his immediate family. His surviving brother, John Satterwhite, lives in Clinton, MD. His memories will be carried through his devoted daughter, Stephanie (Roland) James and his two granddaughters, Stesha and Shuyla James—all of Columbus, OH; his niece, Dorothy Yvette Hart-Murray of Penn-Craft, PA and nephews: Justin Hart and William Murray; and a host of nieces, nephews from Washington D.C. and Maryland.
