Paul L. “Larry” Lancaster, Jr., age 81, of Hiller, PA passed away on July 9, 2024, at the Mount Macrina Manor in Uniontown, PA. He was born May 5, 1943, the son of Arabelle (Johns) Lancaster and the late Paul L. Lancaster, Sr. in Brownsville, PA.
Larry leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Adrienne; sons: Paul L. (Janine) Lancaster III of Philadelphia and Christopher C. (Lauren) Lancaster of Scottdale; his mother, Arabelle Lancaster; grandchildren: Paul L. Lancaster IV, Hunter Lancaster, Tristan Lancaster, and Lila Lancaster; nephew, Matthew Lancaster of Pittsburgh; sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; many nieces and nephews, cousins, and many special children who have lived under his care as they were growing up.
In addition to his father, Larry is preceded in death by his brother, Judge Gary Lancaster.
Larry was a Professor at California University of Pennsylvania (Cal U) until his retirement in early 2000. During his tenure he served as the Department Chair of the Special Education Department and was an NCAA Liaison for the University. He also served on many boards and committees. Larry loved Cal U and promoted it to everyone he knew. He even had a family legacy of family members who earned a degree through Cal U, including his mother who earned her B.A. in her 60s. Larry earned his bachelor's degree and master’s degree from the University, and later worked toward his doctorate at WVU University.
Larry had a presence and a hearty laugh that would light up a room. He was a devoted husband of 56 years and loved spending time with his family. He especially enjoyed swimming in his pool with his family and friends, guy trips with his sons, and spending quality time with his grandchildren. A lover of good films and movies, Larry could often be found at home watching PBS films and movies like James Bond, Indiana Jones, and Agatha Christy.
Larry loved the Lord and was a faithful, life-long member of Mt. Zion AME Church in Brownsville. He gave back to his community. He was very involved with coaching and managing the Brownsville Little League Football Teams, and he and his wife often opened their home to kids in need.
Friends will be received at the LANTZ Funeral Home, Inc., 297 E. Main St., Uniontown, PA on Tuesday, July 16th from 11 AM – 1 PM. The funeral will begin at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Dr. Gary Yarbrough officiating. Guests are asked to dress casually as a tribute to Larry, who always like to dress comfortably.
