On Friday morning, July 6, 2019, Melvin Carroll Johnican passed away peacefully at Allegheny General Hospital, Pittsburgh PA. He was born December 5, 1957 in Memphis,TN.
Melvin attended Joseph Warren Grade School, Bowen High School, and Kennedy King College, all in Chicago, IL. He was a member of The Gospel Truth Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago, IL and upon moving to PA, he joined The Mount Zion Baptist Church in Grindstone PA, under Christian experience.
Melvin was employed as a Certified Anesthesia Technician at several hospitals including: The University of Illinois in Chicago, West Suburban Hospital, Chicago IL, Children’s Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA and Uniontown Hospital. For the past 10 years, he was employed at Mon General Hospital in Morgantown, WV, where he was a CNA and a certified instrument technician.
In his spare time, Melvin enjoyed cooking, traveling, and going to theatre plays.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Theresa Johnican Frierson; three uncles: Carroll L. Johnican, Melvin M. Johnican, and Ned White; two Aunts, Eloise(Margie) Holland and Irene P. White.
He leaves to mourn his memory his loving wife of 36 years, Donna Jean Hackett Johnican; daughters: Latrice(Orlando) West and Theresse Johnican; sister, Carolyn Bolton; grandchildren: Marcel D. Johnican and Sahara N. West; god-daughter, Brandy Moore; special nephew, Anthony “Ant” (Joy) Johnican; a host of nephews, nieces, grand nephews, grand nieces, cousins, many other relatives and friends.
Friends will be received at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 803 Hillside Ave, Grindstone, PA on Saturday, July 13th from 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM, the hour of service with Pastor Cynthia Hackett, eulogizing.
