Kenneth Johnson, Sr. Obituary

Kenneth Larry Johnson, Sr., passed away peacefully August 26, 2019 with his loving family by his side.  Ken was born December 26, 1944 in Uniontown, PA, son of the late Theodore Dewey and Clara Powell Johnson. 

    

He was a graduate of South Union High School - Class of 1963 and attended Waynesburg College and Penn State Fayette Campus.

    

Ken was employed as an Associate of M& M Mars Corporation and retired after 26 years of service.  He then became a Licensed Real Estate Agent with Sam Simon Realtors and later with S.W.C. Realtors.  He was a former member and exalted ruler of Summit Lodge #115. He was a former member and Chairperson of the Fayette County Housing Authority Board of Directors and is a member and former chairperson of the EEUCC Board.  

    

Ken was special to many people and most notable of his accomplishments to his peers was that he was a founding member and Chairmen of the Uniontown Black homecoming Committee. The Black Homecomings were loved and adored and always well attended.  When one was over everyone was already looking forward to the next one.                                         

    

He was known for his many acts of kindness and he found special pleasure in greeting and giving great treats to the youngsters who graced his door on Halloween.

    

Ken was dedicated member of Mount Rose Baptist Church and served in many capacities. As a member he was involved in the following ministries: Men’s Adult Sunday School Class, Usher Ministry, and served as Trustee for more than 20 years and seventeen of those years he spent as chairmen.     

    

In addition to his parents, Ken was predeceased by a son, Kevin Johnson; six brothers and one sister.

    

Ken was a beloved husband for 52 years to Carla Ford Johnson, his wife; a devoted father to their son, Kenneth Jr. and grandchildren: Ayanna and KhayelJohnson; great-grandson, Jasiah Adamson, all of New York, NY; he is also survived by a son, Reese Hodge of Pittsburgh, PA and his children: Shanae, Reese II, Cherise(Chris), and Tiara. Kenny will be dearly missed by his sister, Margreta Worthington (Nate) of Columbus, OH, brother, Carl Johnson of Hopwood, PA. He was a Brother-in-Love to the following sister in laws: Donna Ford of Philadelphia, PA, Carol Y. Smith (Robert) of Brownsville, PA, Dana Thomas (James) and Rhonda Randall - all of Uniontown, PA., and Olive Johnson of Kansas City, MOKenny also leaves to cherish his memory, his god-son, Lee Stephens of Spring Lake Park, MN; Sherri Ford - the daughter he never had; Craig Ford - who he loved like his own; Joy Lynn Smith - who is always there no matter what, and a group of very special, wonderful nieces and nephews that meant the world to him; and two special friends: Lawrence and Rena Curry and a host of cousins, other relatives, and friends. 

 

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to M & M Mars Corporation -  Pittsburgh Division and the South Union High School Class of 1963 for all of the calls and many cards that Ken received during his illness; and to Carl Beasley for all of his assistance during Kenny’s illness.
