Helen Creech Obituary

Sister Helen Gertrude Creech departed this earthly life to be with her heavenly Father on Wednesday, February 19, 2020.

Helen was born in Brier Hill, PA on December 21, 1926 to the late Moses and Janie Lacey.  She was preceded in death by her husband Browder Ira Creech, two sisters, Elizabeth Foskey and Betty Evans and two brothers, Frank Lacey and Rueben Lacey.

Helen was educated in the Redstone Township public school system.  When World War II began, she left school to help her sister Elizabeth raise her 5 childrenin Baltimore, MD.  During this time Helen attended Apex Beauty School.  When she returned to PA, she completed school, received her GED and passed her state board for cosmetology.

For many years, Helen worked for the Stamen and then Gallet Families in Uniontown, PA.

Helen received the Lord as her personal Savior at an early age.  She was a member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church for more than 70 years.  She served in the Sunday school, Gospel Chorus, Usher Board, Deaconess and the Chrysanthemum Club.

Helen and Browder met in Mt. Lebanon Sunday school and were married over 67 years. In their younger years, they travelled extensively with their late brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Betty Evans.  They vacationed in many states across the United States and Bahamas.  You did not see one sister without the other.

Helen was in charge of the kitchen committee who cooked for Mt. Lebanon’s special events and services for approximately 50 years.  She was an exceptional cook and baker.   Helen could cook anything; she was considered the “black” Julia Childs.  At Christmas time, she was always busy baking cookies and making her famous nut rollto give as gifts to family and friends.  Everyone raved about her baking skills and many would place special orders for cakes, pies orpeach and apple cobblers.  In 2004, her daughter Carolyn compiled and printed a cookbook of Helen’s favorite recipes in her honor for her family and close friends.

Helen leaves to cherish her memory:  One daughter, Carolyn Hunt; son-in-law, Franklin Hunt, Baltimore, MD; grandson, Damon Hunt; granddaughter-in-law, Kathleen Hunt, Ashton, MD; great-grandchildren, Xavier, Sebastien, Emilien and Alexiane.  Nieces and Nephews; Jacqueline Holman, Baltimore, MD; Charles Bush, California, PA; Ronald (Sonia) Bush, Tacoma, WA; Robin (Leslie) Brown, Virginia Beach, VA; James (Brenda) Evans, Colorado Springs, CO; Tonya (Levi) Kirkland, Allison, PA; Kenneth Evans, Tacoma, WA; Larry(Carol) Lacey, Black Jack, MO; Dorothy SardonCleveland, OH; Keenan Kirkland and Caleb Kirkland, Allison, PA. special niece, Mozelle Banks, Baltimore, MD and a host of family and friends.
