Gwendolyn Cherry Obituary

Gwendolyn (Gwen) Louise Cherry of Smock, PA was born to William and Delores Cherry on February 27, 1952 in Brownsville Hospital. This made her the loving sister to Yvonne, William (Billy), James, Sylvia, Stanley, Darniece, and Drena. She graduated Uniontown High School in 1971, and married Wardell David Barnes, Jr. later that year. On February 24, 1972, she became the proud mother to her first son, Wardell David Barnes III. Then, on September 18, 1973, she became the proud mother of Talvin Tyrone Barnes. Three years later, on July 16, 1976, she finally had a girl and became the proud mother of Keisha Michelle Barnes, but unfortunately, Keisha died shortly after her birth. She and her family moved to Grindstone in August of that same year. She was a strong and dutiful wife until her divorce. At which point, she became the best and strongest single mother anyone could ever hope for. She continued to raise her boys to become strong men. In 1991, she entered the work force as a Nurse’s Aide and continued in that field until she focused her talents on being a Home Health Aide. She continued in this field until her passing. Gwen was a member of the First Baptist Church of Smock, PA where she served in various capacities, and most recently as Church Secretary, Missionary, and Trustee. Meeting her on the next plane are her parents, William Alexander Cherry, Jr. and Delores (Jefferson) Cherry, sisters Yvonne and Sylvia Ann (Hungerford), brothers William Henderson and Stanley, her daughter Kiesha, and her son Talvin. She will be greatly missed by her brother James Clifton Cherry Sr. (wife Toni) and sisters Darniece and Drena, her son David (fiancé Jasma), grandchildren Talvin Richard Barnes and Miakoda Adanna Barnes, and great grandchildren Ahmaree and Ayriara, Winfield A. Thomas, and a host of other family and friends.
