Fannie Hancock-Jones Obituary

Fannie Elmira Hancock Jones born October 1, 1919 in Brownsville, PA   the 2nd child of Dennis Joshua and Ethel Colmes. She graduated from Brownsville Area High School in 1938. Fannie gave her life to Christ at a very young age. OnOctober 1, 1941 she married Eugene Thomas Hancock. To that union they had five children: the late Arthur Eugene Hancock (Gloria) of Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Lois Lindsey (Hubert) of Columbus, Ohio; Beverly Hancock of Suffolk, VirginiaKevin Hancock (Barbie) of Beaumont, Texasand Lynette Hathaway of Pittsburgh, PA.

Fannie’s passion for playing the piano was recognized early by her teacher the late Carey Phipps. Under the recommendation of the late Carey Phipps, Fannie became the pianist of the Lott Carey Baptist Church Convention. Later, she became the pianistfor the Senior Choir of the Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church where she served the Lord for over 30 years.

In the early ‘60s, Fannie recalled receiving the Holy Spirit and likened the experienced to a dove landing on her shoulder. Fannie often reminded her family that her favorite scripture Proverbs 3:5 “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him; and HE shall direct thy paths”.

Fannie had a sweet quiet spirit. She called everyone “kiddo” and told everyone she met…”I love you”. Her secret to her loved ones is that she told them individually “they were her favorite” and each one believed they WERE her favorite!!

After being a widow for 12 years, she was united in marriage to Deacon James F. Jones of Allison, PA. They both continued to serve the Lord at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church. After his death, she faithfully served as deaconess and Missionary until 2017 when she relocated to Columbus, Ohio to reside with her daughter and son-in-law.

In the early hours of October 19, 2019 Fannie peacefully went home to be with her Lord surrounded by her daughters. She leaves to cherish her memory three daughters, one son, 10 grandchildren, 16 great grand children and 1 great-great granddaughter. She lives one sister, Flora Carey of Maryland, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
