Dan Ketter, Jr., age 66, of Uniontown, passed away on June 30, 2024, at the UPMC Presbyterian Hospital in Pittsburgh. He was born January 25, 1958, in Madison, FL to the late Dan Ketter, Sr. and Eloise Williams Ketter.
Dan was a 1976 graduate of Stanton Sr. High School in Jacksonville, FL and he often talked fondly of his football playing days. He furthered his education at Johnson C. Smith University in Charlotte, NC where he pledged Omega Psi Phi Fraternity Rho Chapter in 1980 while earning his B.A. degree in Communications. This is also where he met his devoted wife of 40 years, Darlene. After college, Dan joined the U.S. Army and upon obtaining an honorable discharge, he and Darlene relocated to the Pittsburgh area. Dan obtained his career job as a Corrections Officer with the PA State Corrections Institution where he was employed for over 22 years until his retirement in 2018
Dan was a faithful member of Interfaith Assembly for Christ Church and served on the board for many years. He was a devoted Fayette Football League coach of the Uniontown Cowboys for many years along with his good friend, Rick Settles. In his spare time, Dan enjoyed spending time with his family, working out, listening to jazz and funkadelic music, reading and collecting Marvel comic books. He was an avid fan of Star Trek and Star Wars and LOVED watching TV—especially football and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Along with his parents, Dan is preceded in death by his brother, James Williams; baby sister, Joyce Ketter; and his in-laws: Saint John and Mary Lou Hicks.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Darlene Ketter and his children: Danielle, and Darren, Darius – all of Uniontown; siblings: Herbert (Sarah) Williams, Joann Jackson, June Thomas, Beverly Ketter, and Micah (Stacy) Ketter---all of Jacksonville, FL and Terry Ketter of Lake City, FL; sister-in-law, Nancy Williams of Jacksonville, FL; brother-in-law, Gerald (Carlise) Blakey of Richmond, VA; aunt, Roberta Williams of Madison, FL; special cousins: Ronnie Edwards of Madison, FL and Patrick Edwards of Jacksonville, FL; 15 very special nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly; host of great-nieces and nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends; very special friends: Tamila & Eric Yarbrough, and his beloved dog, Dezi Lou AKA Marmaduke.
Services are entrusted to LANTZ Funeral Home, Inc., 297 E. Main St., Uniontown, PA where friends will be received on Saturday, July 13th from 11 AM – 1 PM. The funeral service will begin at 1 PM with Rev. Dr. Gary Yarbrough officiating. Interment is private.
