Cliffie Bailey Obituary

On August 4, 2018, the Lord called Cliffied Egreta Powell Stone Bailey home to be with Him.

Egreta was born on June 21, 1924 in Gladys, WV.  She was the youngest of four daughters born to the union of the late Clifford Lawrence McShan and the late Malisia Ellis McShan.  Her three sisters, Ethel, Odessa, and Beatrice, predeceased her.

After the death of her father, the family moved to McClellandtown, PA where Egreta began high school in the German Township School system and in later years she graduated from Uniontown High night school.  From there, she took several college classes at the Fayette Campus of Penn State University.

Egreta met and married the late Richard Athur Powell I 1942 and four children were born to the union: Lucretia, Deirdra, Carolyn, and Richard.  In 1960, Egreta married the late James Reginald Stone, Sr. and to the is union was born one son, Michael.  Mr. Stone had 2 sons: James, Jr. and Donald from his first marriage.

Egreta was a member of John Wesley A.M.E. Zion Church for many years where she sang as a soloist in the church choir and gave many concerts.  She also served as the church secretary.  She later left John Wesley to join the Interfaith Assembly for Christ Church under the pastorate of Rev. Dr. Howard Dantzler.

As a member of the Interfaith, Egreta served in the following positions: Church Secretary, Secretary of other boards in the church, member of the Steward board, Church Clerk, Sunday School Superintendent, and Choir President.  She also continued singing in the choir serving a s a soloist.  She retained these positions until she left Interfaith to marry Rev. Rubin R. Bailey.

The late Rev. Rubin R. Bailey was the Pastor of Antioch Baptist Church in Eden born, Pa.  Egreta served as the First Lady and continued her ministry of singing in the choir until Rev. Bailey’s death.  After Rev. Bailey’s death, Egreta returned to Interfaith where she continued to serve until 2010.  Egreta also served as Secretary of the local NAACP under the presidency of the late Mr. Randy Murray. 

Egreta lived briefly with her daughters Dierdra and Lucretia in Maryland but wanted to return to Uniontown.  When her health began to fail, her children moved her to the Beechwood Court Assisted Living Home where she lived until she was moved to LaFayette Manor nursing facility to live out the rest of her life.

She is survived by her children: Lucretia (Frank), Dierdra (James), Carolyn, and Michael; several step-children; 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.  One son, Richard Clifford Powell predeceased her.
