Betty Joan (Ridgely) Lockette

Betty Joan Ridgely Lockette, age 91, of Vanderbilt, PA, passed away peacefully in Uniontown Hospital in Uniontown, PA on September 12, 2024. She was born on March 23, 1933, the daughter of the late Vinton Ridgely and Rozella (Mills) Ridgely in Connellsville, PA.

In addition to her parents, she is predeceased by loving husband of 52 years, Thomas I. “Sonny” Lockette; her brother, Vinton “Junie” Ridgely, Jr.; sister, Evelyn “honey” Lockette, and her grandson, Christopher M. Brown.

Betty was a graduate of Dunbar Township High School. She was employed by Murphys Mart as a manager until her retirement. Betty was a former member of Payne A.M.E. Church of Connellsville where she was baptized. She was a life-long and faithful member of St. Paul Baptist Church of Vanderbilt, PA where she served the Lord as the secretary and treasurer.

Betty was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She lived her life as a Christian showing love for her family and friends, and to all mankind. She was a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 762 in Trotter, PA and the Trotter Lions Club Ladies Auxiliary.

She enjoyed traveling and camping with her family and friends. She loved working on her family ancestry, painting by numbers, and working on puzzles. She was an avid sports fan, and was especially fond of the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins as well as the Penn State Nittany lions and the Pitt Panthers. She also had a passion for cooking and trying new recipes.

Left to cherish her memory are her devoted children: Denise Brown of North Chesterfield, VA, Valarie Carter of Uniontown, Duane Lockette and his wife, Sue of Hopwood, PA; her grandchildren: Erin Brown, Jodie Young, Anthony Brown and wife, Laceena, James Carter and wife Christy, Jason Carter, and Troi Lockette; great-grandchildren: Christian, Dakarai, Madison, Peyton, Jamesen, Malachi, Miracle, and several nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
