With hearts filled with love and reverence, we celebrate the extraordinary life of Barbara Ann Curry – Williams, born on July 27, 1937, in the cherished town of Uniontown, Pa. A devoted daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, and friend, Barbara’s journey was a testament to unwavering faith, tireless dedication, and a boundless love for her community.
After graduating from Uniontown Area High School with a focus on home economics, Barbara embarked on a new chapter in Cleveland, Oho, where she began her family and established a nurturing home. She later returned to Uniontown, drawn back by her deep connection to the community she so dearly loved. Barbara’s professional journey began humbly as a Teacher’s Aide for Uniontown Area School District, and later retired from Sear’s Department Store, leaving behind a legacy of hard work and service.
Barbara’s heart and soul were deeply rooted in her commitment to St. Paul’s AME Church, where she was a pillar of strength and inspiration. Her involvement in Uniontown’s Black Homecoming and numerous senior programs highlighted her passion for preserving history and fostering unity. Barbara’s dedication to her community was not just an echo of her ancestors’ courageous contributions to the Underground Railroad, Colored Civil War Infantry, and both World Wars - it was a continuation of their legacy. Barbara carried their legacy forward through her own acts of service and love.
A cornerstone of Uniontown, Barbara exemplified grace, humility, and resilience. Her life was a shining example of hope, guiding and inspiring others, through her selfless dedication and unwavering commitment to uplifting the community.
Barbara was preceded in death by her beloved husband, the late Richard Carrington Williams Sr., her cherished children, Vincent E. Williams and Bridget Ann Williams, her loving parents, Robert Lincoln Curry and Sarah Callahan – Curry, her siblings, Clark Curry and Donatta Mae Curry. Her grandson, Michael A. Scott, and great grandson, Jadden Rein Williams.
Her memory is cherished by her devoted children and their spouses: Richard C. Williams II (Kimberly), Anthony E. Williams, Annette Naeimypour (Saied), and Dewayne John C. Williams; her treasured 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; siblings, Robert Curry and Richard Curry (Darlene), along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends, who will forever cherish her legacy of love and wisdom.
Barbara’s life was a testament to the power of faith, perseverance, and love. She inspired those around her to strive for excellence and to serve others with an open heart. Though she departed this earthly life, her legacy will forever remain a cornerstone of the Uniontown community and a guiding light for all her knew her. May we honor her memory by continuing the good fight, finishing our course, and keeping the faith.
Rest in peace, Barbara Ann Curry-Williams. You have run your race with grace and dignity, and your reward awaits you in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
