Elizabeth Freeman, 98, of Grindstone, PA passed away on  January 23, 2019 at the Uniontown Hospital with her family by her side.  She was born November 24, 1920 to the late Houston and Minnie Gregory in Steubenville, OH.

When she was a child, Elizabeth and her family relocated to Monessen, Pa where she attended elementary school.  Later, her family moved to Brownsville where she graduated from Brownsville High School.  She also attended the Douglas Business Institute where she excelled in Bookkeeping and Accounting.  She had many skills and during the Depression she helped to support her family financially by working in the sewing factory.  She became an expert seamstress; and made cute outfits for her three daughters.

She loved dancing, roller skating, and music.  Her loved for music inspired her to give her three daughters piano lessons. She was a loving mother whose top priority was raising her children and her many sacrifices didn’t go unnoticed.  She was an amazing cook, and most famous for her “hot rolls” which were loved by her children and friends.

Paramount in her life was her love for the Lord.  She was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Grindstone, Pa - a church which she previously attended.  She was very active for many years at Mt. Ararat Baptist Church in Cardale, Pa where she was a member of the Young Nurses.  She was also a leader and very involved with the youth (Vacation Bible School and BYPU).

Elizabeth worked for the Brownsville School District as a Teacher’s Aide at Colonial Elementary School.  That love for teaching extended to mentoring and tutoring of children in her community where she impacted many lives. Additionally, she assisted children in the Head Start Program.  She was very involved politically and committed to “Get Out the Vote”.

Needless to sayElizabeth fought a good fight.  She finished her course and kept the faith. There was not a day that passed that she didn’t say “God Bless You” to someone. One of her favorite phrases was, “That’s My God you’re talking about!”.

Elizabeth is predeceased by her parents; husband, Alfonso Freeman; and siblings: Clarence Gregory, Sr. and Louie Gregory.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her children: Sandra (Lincoln) McCain of Grindstone, Pa, Joyce Hammond of Suitland, Md, and Shirley (Danny) White of Brownsville, Pa; grandchildren: Melvin (Johnetta) Hardy of Glendale, Md, Karen McCain and Rhonda McCain of Lexington, SC, Michelle Hardy of Md, Brian (Erika) McCain of Gainesville, Fl, Latrice Scott of Brownsville, Pa, Meka Hammond of New York, NY, and Latoya Scott of Pittsburgh, Pa; great-grandchildren: Elizabeth and Victoria Hardy, Kadesha (Charles) Scott, Khalil, D’alia, Kayla, Walter, Kyira, and Chubbs Scott; Lauren and Ethan McCain, Tzvia and Mikvah Schwartz; great-great grandchildren: Kaiden and KaimierBerger; special sister-in-law, Juanita Gregory; special nephews: Clarence (Melinda) Gregory, Jr. and Reginald (Jennipha) Gregory, Jr.; and a host of other relatives and friends.
