Gertrude Sydney (Mills) Jackson 83, Of Uniontown, PA, was unexpectedly reunited with her husband, Russell Clayton Jackson Jr, on Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at her home. 

Gertrude was born March 12, 1934 in Connellsville, PA to the late George D. Mills Sr. and Sarah Agnes (Cooper) Mills in Connellsville, PA.

 

Gertrude is survived by the following children: Richard Jackson, wife, Tammy, of Mt. Alto, PA; Russell Jackson III, wife, Pat, of King George, VA; Cameron Jackson, wife, Joan Of Clearwater, Florida; April Jackson of Uniontown, PA; Nadine McLee, Husband, Bradley, of Pittsburgh, PA; Darrell Jackson of Upper St. Clair, PA; Melody Jackson of Brentwood, PA; and Doreene Jackson of Sharpsburg, PA; and A special grandson, Ethan Russell of North Versailles, PA, whom she and her husband raised, as well as 25 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren; and was happily awaiting the birth of 1 great-grand daughter;

siblings: Ivy Sterling of Pontiac Michigan and Charles Mills, Sr. of Connellsville PA; sister-in-law, Dell Marie Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.  

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by her siblings Ruth Mills, Roslyn Mills, Shirley Mills, George Mills, James Mills, and Eilean (Mills) Green. 

 

Gertrude Jackson was employed by the IU#1 where she was the union president.  She took an early retirement after 32 years to care for her husband. She also worked the election polls for a number of years at the Uniontown High School.

 

Following the death of her husband, Russell, Gertrude decided to return to her home church, Payne A.M.E. In Connellsville, PA an rededicated her life to the Lord. On September 21, 2014 she received her “Affirmation Of Faith Baptismal Covenant Certificate”  presided by Pastor Geoffrey Tate.

 

Gertrude lived her life to the fullest and loved her family with her whole heart.  She will be sorely missed.

My deepest sympathies to Gert's family. My heartfelt thanks to the best Union President ever. She took a ragtag bunch and made it a force to be reckoned with.
